October is Global Diversity Awareness Month, and Gupta Consulting is diving deeper into how diversity impacts society and the best practices for responding to it.
The History of Global Diversity Month
After the Second World War, The United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Paris. This Declaration symbolized the first global expression of rights to which all people are inherently entitled. It stated that we should value each and every human being and respect each other’s differences.
Appreciating cultural diversity is an important part of creating a world that embraces the infinite variation that is intrinsic to human existence.
Discover the Value in Difference
Our country is 37% multicultural. In 2012, the U.S. Census Bureau projected that by 2060, this percentage will grow to 57% of the population. It is vital to learn about and appreciate the diversity of thought and vibrancy of cultural practices nationwide. As members of a multicultural society, respecting the other cultures we live among strengthens our understanding and appreciation of the world as we know it. Let’s explore other views and ideas, celebrate our differences, and learn new perspectives.
DEI Publications for a Cause
It is difficult to overstate the value of implementing DEI practices into your lifestyle and place of work. For adults in the workplace, my Quick Guide to Cultural Competency: Second Edition will help you continue your DEI journey, and provide you—the busy professional—with a quick overview and practical tips and tools to work more effectively across our multicultural working environment.
My DEI books for the next generation, Maya and Rajan go to North India and Maya and Rajan’s Rainbow of Friends, are designed to introduce children, our future leaders, to the world of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and to help them navigate the global village in which they live.
For the month of October, we are offering three of our eBooks for $1.99 and $2.99, and as always, all proceeds from sales will be donated to children’s educational charities.
