The violence against Asian Americans continues to grow. As an organization, you must issue a statement of solidarity and let it be known that you stand with the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
Why?
Because they are Americans, and we cannot allow hate-filled rhetoric and violence towards anyone or any group go unanswered. We have to stand with them and demand that the hate stop.
Because your employees want to see the company that they work for take a stand. Employees care about inclusive cultures. 83% of millennials are actively engaged when company cultures are inclusive but only 60% engaged when they are not. Disengaged employees cost U.S. organizations up to $550 billion a year.
Because your future employees will care. Many employees look beyond salary and benefits when deciding where they want to work. They look for organizations where their values align with those of the organization. 67% of candidates seek out diverse organizations. Employees, especially diverse employees and that includes women, want a working environment where they will feel included and respected. They want to feel that they are welcome in their new environment.
And most importantly, issue the statement because it is the right thing to do. As individuals and as organizations, we have to take a risk and take a stand. Otherwise, how do we bring about change? Stand up and be counted.
